The Cunningham Cats!

Meet the Cunningham Cats:

It's good to a Cat in the Cunningham Home!

Meet Remy:

Remy is our eldest cat.

He was rescued from C.A.R.E. (Cats Are Reason Enough). The Hubs and I had been married for a few years and I really wanted a pet. I went to C.A.R.E's foster mom, Brandi, and met some of the cats in her home. I was sitting in her living room, when I felt this tap on my shoulder. I looked up and this tiny black cat walked down the front of me and sat in my lap. I moved him. He got back in my lap. He picked me! I had been praying for the right pet for our family!

Remy is named after the rat in Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille. When we took him to the vet for his boosters he weighed 2 lbs. The vet took one look at him and said: "look at those ears...and his tail. He's going to be a big cat". At that time, I looked at our tiny black fur ball and thought: No. He's so small.
He now stands as tall as my parent's West Highland Terrier and he is 16 lbs. The doc was right!

Remy is the King Cat. He is a gentle feline ruler, but no cat in this house pushes their luck too far.

From the day he tapped my shoulder he has been "my" cat. He and me- we love each other!

Remy loves sleeping in the sunshine (and on his momma's lap), sneaking snacks, and playing with wadded up balls of foil.

Meet Pumpkin:

Pumpkin was also rescued from C.A.R.E. We got him in October, and since black cats and pumpkins are seen so often together in October we decided it was the purrrfect name!

Pumpkin loves being on the screen porch. He is also very athletic- so much so, that he has been known to set the house alarm off by leaping from chairs to the top of the bookcase...motion sensor. I once saw him catch a fly in the air! The humans had been trying to kill said fly. Pumpkin jumped from the table and caught it in mid-air. I gotta say, we were pretty impressed.

He likes being held. The Hubs can hold Pumpkin on his back and rub his tummy...Pumpkin just purrs.
He is the most affectionate cat of the bunch, but he can also be the most fussy with his brother and sister.

He has something for the color green too. He loves his green pig (seen in this picture) and he also loves lettuce. He will beg for salad.

Meet Minnie:

Minnie Mouse Cunningham is a rescue from The Humane Society. Minnie is the perfect name...she is tiny!

She is feisty and full of energy. The Shakespearean quote: "And though she be but little, she is fierce", definitely applies here. She is not at all intimidated by her brothers, who are 2 or 3 times her size.

She loves the laser pointer! She is so fast- she runs after that little red dot with all she's got.

She is an affectionate little thing with some funny quirks. She has certain spots in the house she goes to be petted. She does not like being held, and she will only sleep with us if we take an afternoon nap...but never at night.

She has a very interesting color pattern too. She is black with flecks of white throughout. It almost looks like someone took a paintbrush, dipped it in white paint, and flicked it on her!

Our Love For Animals:

The Hubs and I are supporters of our local animal organizations. We believe that the Lord made us (humans) to be stewards of the earth. We are, therefore, stewards of the animals in it.

If you are looking for a cat or dog, please go to a shelter and adopt one!

Also, please help lower the animal euthanasia rate and have your cat and/or dog spayed or neutered by your local professional. Having your pet spayed/neutered is responsible pet ownership! Don't let the cost deter you either. There are low cost (sometimes no cost) spay and neuter clinics everywhere! Just make sure that a professional vet/clinic does the surgery. This keeps the pet safe and healthy and will help you, your family, and your pet get off to a great start!

And finally, please don't declaw your cats. Declawing is very inhumane. The 1st knuckle of the cat's paw actually has to be amputated in an effort to remove the claw. Declawed cats can have trouble with their paws, as well as suffer from neurological issues for the rest of their lives. Vet's and groomers will clip cat's nails for a minimal fee. You can always ask your vet to teach you how to clip them as well. There are sprays, sticky tapes or air-blowing devices that can help train kitty not to claw the furniture.
We have been very fortunate that our cats have not torn up any of our furniture.

There are professionals and non-profits all over the place who will be happy to help you with your new furry friend! You don't have to try to figure it out on your own. Ask around and see what is available in your community.

These little black cats have brought us so much joy!

La Bonne Vie Y'all!
