Saturday Morning Brunch Idea! The Hubs Approved!!!

Challah French Toast! Yum!

This is very hearty. I found the recipe on the Food Network App.
It is a Barefoot Contessa recipe and the Hubs Loves It!
I used 6 large eggs and sliced the Challah into thick pieces (about 3/4").

She calls for plain Challah, but I could only find Challah with raisins. It is wonderful with raisins!
You will need the 1 tsp of orange zest, 1 1/2 cups of half-and-half (I used heavy whipping cream,
because I had it in the fridge) or 2% milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp honey, 1/2 tsp Kosher salt.

Mix eggs, cream, orange zest, honey, vanilla extract,
salt in a shallow bowl. Soak bread in the mix 5 minutes
on each side.
Heat 1 Tbsp of butter and 1 Tbsp of oil in a skillet on
medium heat. Cook soaked slices on each side for
2-4 minutes until golden.

Heat your oven to 250 degrees so that you can keep the toast warm as you cook the second batch.
Then cover your French toast with confectioners sugar.

The Barefoot Contessa suggests serving with warm maple syrup
and raspberry preserves.
We didn't have raspberry preserves, so we just used blackberry preserves.
It was still delicious!

So Orange-Scented French Toast, covered in Blackberry Preserves and
smothered in syrup...Win!

The Hubs Loved It!
I cannot tell you that it is at all low carb, but there is quite a bit of protein from all of the eggs.
If you are going for yummy French Toast and you aren't carb counting...pick this one!!!
Hooray for Brunch!

La Bonne Vie Ya'll!
